Revolut is entering the stablecoin market with EURR, its first proprietary stablecoin product and a new onchain representation of the euro.
Announced on August 26, EURR is designed to maintain a value of €1.00 and will give eligible Revolut customers another way to move between euros, crypto assets, external wallets and supported blockchain networks.
The launch is also only the beginning of Revolut’s stablecoin strategy. The fintech company says stablecoins linked to additional currencies are already under development.
What Is EURR?
EURR is a euro-pegged electronic money token (EMT) designed to maintain a one-to-one value with the euro.
Unlike decentralized stablecoins backed by crypto collateral or algorithms, EURR is backed by reserves held and managed by an EU-regulated issuer.
The token is issued by Bridge Building S.A., a Luxembourg-based electronic money institution supervised by the Commission de Surveillance du Secteur Financier (CSSF).
Revolut Digital Assets Europe Ltd acts as the offeror. Revolut’s European crypto entity is licensed by the Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission as a Crypto Asset Service Provider under the EU’s Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation, better known as MiCA.
What Can Revolut Customers Do With EURR?
Revolut says EURR is intended to create an onchain rail for euros.
Eligible users will be able to move more easily between:
- euros
- EURR
- other cryptocurrencies
- external crypto wallets
- supported blockchain networks
That could make EURR particularly useful for customers who want to move euro-denominated value onchain without first converting into a dollar stablecoin such as USDC.
Revolut already supports sending and receiving stablecoins through external wallets, so integrating its own euro token could create a much tighter connection between traditional Revolut balances and blockchain-based payments.

Why MiCA Matters for EURR
The regulatory structure behind EURR is one of the most important parts of the announcement.
MiCA introduced a common European framework covering crypto assets, including stablecoins classified as electronic money tokens.
EURR is being issued through an EU-regulated entity rather than being launched as an unregulated token.
Revolut also states that EURR holders have redemption rights with Bridge Building S.A. at par value, subject to the issuer’s applicable terms and redemption process.
This means the regulatory and reserve structure is fundamentally different from many speculative cryptocurrencies.
However, regulation does not make stablecoins risk-free. Revolut warns about possible collateral, redemption, counterparty, operational and market risks.
Revolut Wants More Than One Stablecoin
Perhaps the most interesting part of the announcement is Revolut’s longer-term plan.
The company says:
“EURR is only the beginning.”
Stablecoins linked to other fiat currencies are already being developed, suggesting Revolut may eventually build a broader family of digital currencies integrated directly into its financial ecosystem.
That could have significant implications for cross-border payments.
Instead of converting between bank balances, foreign currencies and third-party stablecoins, users could eventually move between multiple Revolut-issued or Revolut-supported fiat tokens through the same app.
Why EURR Could Matter for Euro Stablecoins
Dollar-backed stablecoins still dominate the crypto economy, even for European users.
EURR gives Revolut an opportunity to challenge that structure by bringing a euro-denominated token directly to an existing mainstream fintech audience.
The biggest advantage may therefore be distribution rather than blockchain technology.
Revolut already provides banking, payments, foreign exchange and crypto services from one application. Adding a euro stablecoin means users may not need to open a separate exchange account or learn a completely new platform to begin interacting with tokenized euros.
That could lower one of the biggest barriers to mainstream stablecoin adoption.
Final Thoughts
EURR marks a significant expansion of Revolut’s crypto strategy.
Rather than simply allowing customers to buy and transfer existing stablecoins, Revolut is now introducing a euro-pegged asset integrated with its own financial ecosystem.
The combination of a €1 target value, MiCA-compliant structure, external wallet support and future expansion to additional currencies makes EURR particularly interesting to watch.
The bigger story may not be EURR alone. If Revolut follows through with stablecoins tied to multiple fiat currencies, it could gradually turn its app into a bridge between conventional money and onchain payments.
