Ondo Network Launches Private Execution Layer

Ondo Network has launched as a new execution layer designed to combine private, high-speed processing with non-custodial asset control and verifiable behavior. The system is already supporting Ondo Perps, a perpetual-futures platform tied to equities and commodities, and represents an evolution of the previously announced Ondo Chain plan.

The architecture separates transaction execution from verification and settlement. Instead of forcing every stage onto the same public ledger, applications can run inside secure hardware environments while independent attestors verify that approved code is being used. Asset transfers currently settle on Ethereum, with support for additional public networks planned.

Ondo says it will not operate Ondo Chain and the Ondo Network in parallel. The new design is the implementation of the original objective, but it uses a different technical route after development work showed that execution speed and privacy were the main constraints.

How Ondo Network Separates the Stack

Public blockchains usually combine execution, consensus and settlement in a shared, transparent environment. That structure provides durability and open verification, but it can expose order flow and impose latency that is difficult for professional trading applications.

Ondo Network moves application logic into trusted execution environments, also called secure enclaves. These hardware-isolated environments can process sensitive activity without exposing all internal state to the machine operator or the public.

Each enclave produces a measurement of the code it runs. A decentralized set of attestors checks those measurements and determines whether the approved version is executing. If the code changes, the measurement changes and verification should fail.

Privacy With External Verification

This model aims to provide privacy without asking users to trust a single exchange operator. Positions and order flow can remain shielded during execution, while cryptographic attestations provide evidence that the agreed rules were followed.

The compromise is that trusted hardware becomes part of the security model. Secure enclaves can offer strong isolation, but they are not identical to open execution on a public blockchain. Hardware vulnerabilities, implementation errors and attestor concentration all require careful management.

Ondo plans to strengthen verification over time through signed execution logs, additional proofs and independent watchers capable of replaying activity. It also expects to commit settled state to public blockchains, creating a more durable external record than the enclave-only state used at launch.

Ondo Perps Is the First Live Application

Ondo Perps provides perpetual futures linked to equities and commodities. It operates around the clock and is designed to accept tokenized real-world assets as collateral, connecting Ondo’s existing tokenization products with a derivatives venue.

Perpetual futures require fast order handling, reliable liquidations and privacy for sophisticated participants. Those needs influenced the decision to build an execution layer rather than a conventional general-purpose chain.

The application is non-custodial in design, meaning users retain control over assets rather than depositing them with a traditional centralized exchange. Settlement on Ethereum gives completed transfers a public-chain endpoint even though the order-matching and application logic run privately.

A General-Purpose Ambition

Ondo says the network is not limited to perpetual futures. Potential applications include spot markets, lending, structured products, trade settlement and non-financial services that need fast private execution with verifiable rules.

That broader ambition will be tested by developer access and operational transparency. A general-purpose platform needs clear interfaces, documentation, security assumptions and an ecosystem of independent participants. A single successful in-house application would demonstrate utility, but not necessarily an open network.

The network’s decentralization roadmap includes more attestors, watchers and economic security. The ONDO token’s current role has not changed at launch. It remains a governance and ecosystem token, with potential future uses in incentives and security as the network decentralizes.

Why Ondo Changed Course

The shift from Ondo Chain illustrates a wider debate in blockchain design. Projects often begin by proposing a new chain, only to discover that settlement is not the primary bottleneck for their application.

For high-performance markets, execution can be the harder problem. Public mempools can reveal intent, block times introduce delay, and replicated computation makes every node repeat the same work. Separating execution allows a project to optimize speed and privacy while retaining public settlement where it adds the most value.

The design also creates new trust boundaries. Users must understand what happens inside enclaves, who approves code, how faulty state is challenged and when final records reach a public chain. Marketing the system as verifiable is not enough; the verification process must be independently inspectable.

What Comes Next for Ondo Network

The first priority is live performance. Ondo Perps will show whether the execution layer can maintain predictable latency, fair ordering and reliable liquidations during volatile markets.

The second is the attestor set. Greater independence among attestors would reduce reliance on the founding team and make code approval more resistant to coordinated failure. Watcher participation and public proofs will further determine how much verification users can perform themselves.

The third is public settlement coverage. Ethereum currently handles asset transfers, while additional networks and state commitments are planned. Clear finality rules will be necessary as the system expands across chains.

Finally, the project must define how ONDO governance and economic security interact with the execution layer without creating incentives that compromise performance or user protection.

Ondo Network is a significant architectural pivot, but not an abandonment of onchain finance. It places private execution in secure hardware, distributes verification and uses public blockchains for settlement. Its success will depend on whether that separation delivers measurable performance while keeping the rules transparent, challengeable and beyond the control of any single operator.
