Bitcoin Cash Halving Countdown
Follow the countdown to the next Bitcoin Cash halving, with remaining blocks, estimated timing, and the upcoming BCH block reward reduction.
COUNTDOWN TO THE
NEXT BCH HALVING
Follow the reward schedule and the blocks separating Bitcoin Cash from its next milestone.
Estimated date & time: 31 May 2028, 13:29 UTC.
The Bitcoin Cash block subsidy will decrease from 3.125 BTC to 1.5625 BTC.
Next halving will be at block 1,050,000
What Is the Bitcoin Cash Halving?
The next Bitcoin Cash halving will take place at block 1,050,000. At that point, the Bitcoin Cash block subsidy will fall from 3.125 BCH to 1.5625 BCH per block.
The countdown above provides an estimated date and time based on the current Bitcoin Cash block height and the network’s target interval of approximately 10 minutes per block. However, the exact date may move forward or backward because the halving is activated by a specific block height—not by a fixed calendar date.
Individual Bitcoin Cash blocks may be produced faster or slower than the target interval. For this reason, the estimated Bitcoin Cash halving date will become more accurate as block 1,050,000 approaches.
How Does the Bitcoin Cash Halving Work?
Bitcoin Cash miners use specialised computing equipment to process transactions, produce blocks and help secure the network. When a miner produces a valid block, the miner can receive newly issued BCH through the block subsidy, together with the transaction fees included in that block.
Bitcoin Cash shares Bitcoin’s original issuance schedule. The block subsidy began at 50 coins per block and is reduced by half after every 210,000 blocks, which usually takes approximately four years.
Bitcoin Cash became a separate network in August 2017. However, it retained the earlier blockchain history and the existing block subsidy schedule.
This means the first Bitcoin Cash halving after the network split occurred at block 630,000 in April 2020. The second BCH-era halving occurred at block 840,000 in April 2024.
Bitcoin Cash Halving History
Bitcoin Cash inherited the blockchain history and reward schedule that existed before its separation from Bitcoin in 2017. Each subsequent halving has reduced the number of new BCH issued with every block.
| Event | Block | Date | New Block Subsidy |
|---|---|---|---|
| Original chain launch | 0 | 3 January 2009 | 50 coins |
| First inherited halving | 210,000 | 28 November 2012 | 25 coins |
| Second inherited halving | 420,000 | 9 July 2016 | 12.5 coins |
| Bitcoin Cash network split | 478,559 | 1 August 2017 | 12.5 BCH |
| First BCH-era halving | 630,000 | 8 April 2020 | 6.25 BCH |
| Second BCH-era halving | 840,000 | 4 April 2024 | 3.125 BCH |
| Next BCH halving | 1,050,000 | Estimated in 2028 | 1.5625 BCH |
Future halving dates cannot be known with complete precision. The block heights and subsidy reductions are fixed, but the calendar dates depend on how quickly miners produce the remaining blocks.
What Happens When All Bitcoin Cash Has Been Mined?
The Bitcoin Cash block subsidy will continue to become smaller through future halvings. New BCH issuance will gradually approach the network’s maximum supply over many decades.
As the block subsidy declines, transaction fees are expected to become a larger part of miner revenue. This transition will happen gradually rather than immediately after a single halving.
